I was not planning on doing any baking today, but yesterday there was some bad news that was given out at Jeff's office. I wanted to make something for them that was comforting but I didn't have time to go shopping so I had to have everything on hand already. I looked though the pantry and saw I had the staples for chocolate chip cookies. I remembered we had made some before for them that were soft and chewy so this time we went with the more crisp kind.
I changed my schedule and got up a little earlier than normal so I could get going on them. After they were done and slightly cooled off I did have to try one before sending them all off. The texture of these golden brown goodies are crisp, slightly chewy and packed with chocolate chips. I think I prefer these over ones I have had in the past as they seem to appeal to more people than the softer kind. Don't get me wrong though... I don't think any kind of chocolate chip cookie could be bad! So what kind do you prefer?
Going into a different realm for dinner tonight. Curried Chicken with Fresh and Dried Cranberries served over brown basmati rice has so many textures and flavors going on. This is a hearty chicken stew type dish that has a spicy background if you use a medium or hot curry powder. I used Muir Glen fire roasted tomatoes and then added some green chiles in separatley. This can be made ahead of time and then reheated for a quick dinner. Another great way to use up the fresh cranberries!
You might be the most prolific cook I know! Every day, there are several new recipes!
ReplyDeleteI prefer chewy myself...am on the constant quest for the best recipe...planning a post on it sometime next week...
Oh, I love Muir Glen tomatoes. I've noticed Giada uses them on her show, too!
ReplyDeleteI've always liked a soft cookie; not necessarily 'chewy', per se, but definitely not crunchy.
I think I'm going to have to email you guys...my parents are considering moving to Phoenix when my mom finishes pastry school, and I'd love to get some info from you!
I definately like the crispier cookies. Not that there's anything wrong if you're a chewy fan, though. My testers like my (slightly crisper) "addictive" cc's a bit more than the "chewy" cc's, too.
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer the soft cookies. I just can't get into the crispy kind. I don't know why! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteJoe, I'm going to have to give those crispie chocolate chip cookies a try.
ReplyDeleteI actually made the City Bakery Copy Cat cookies from Words to Eat by again this morning. They came out very chewy this time and not as flat.

I'm starting to like them more and more.
Your cookies look yummy! I much prefer oatmeal cookies, but my sister loves the chocolate chip ones! Oh, and we actually like them chewy! (but some crispiness is always welcome too, especially if it has chocolate on it!)

I, for one, really don't know which kind of CCC I prefer. I have plans, one of these days, to make both the chewy and crispy ones from the KAFCC on the same day...and compare! Should be fun!
ReplyDeleteI like them chewy. Not too soft, but definitely not crisp and crunchy. A little cripsness on the outside is okay, though.
ReplyDeleteI love Anna's Giant Chocolate Chunk Cookies (can't find them on her blog, though, or else I'd link) - great texture. I've also made the same recipe with toffee chips and macadamia nuts (but I'd like to try pecans next time).
I want to bake something tomorrow....maybe CCC will be the thing..........
I love chocolate chip cookies, period. I made some oatmeal choco chip ones tonight--they are a thick and hearty cookie, with extra flavor from cinnamon and nutmeg. I think they are my all time favorite cookie.
ReplyDeleteThe curry looks interesting--I'm hoping to learn how to make different curries from a coworker. Yum!
Lisasd - Thanks for the kind words! I look forward to seeing your recipe!
ReplyDeleteStephanie - Feel free to send us an email! That's very cool that she is in pastry school!
Nic - I'm already planning on making this dough again to freeze as dough balls to bake when needed. It could use a tweak here and there maybe!
Michelle - Some soft/chewy ones appeal to me too but not a lot of them.
Anna - I have not seen that one before. Thank you for pointing me to the recipe - saving it for a lter date to try!
Thanks Ana!
Alice - Can't wait to see your trials!
Alysha - I have seen the recipe for her's before and it is definetly on my list to try! I like your additions!
JJsooner - I love oatmeal ones too - I don't have a favorite recipe yet though!
I like mine to be more chewy, but definately not soft. Soft, flaccid chocolate chip cookies remind me of those nasty kind my Mom used to buy from the store when I was little.
ReplyDeleteYours looked quite good, though- hope they cheered everyone up!
im a soft chewy kind of girl but really its a cookie, they are all good ;) that chicken curry looks tasty, we're in bird flu scares now so i miss it already
ReplyDeletei definatly prefer chewy.
