We are very happy to let you in on a little secret... we went and picked up a little guy we have been waiting for awhile now - meet our new little daschund, Gus! He is a long-haired chocolate dapple.
Warning - be prepared for lots of pictures!
Needless to say, we'll be too busy playin' around with new squeaky toys and seeing how his older brother Max adapts to this interesting creature invading his home, rather than making dinner tonight. Doesn't Gus look like a toy himself?
I will, however, be making a treat for Jeff to bring in for treat day, but it will be pushed back to Thursday this week!
Jeff has longed for a daschund and we had been tossing the idea around of getting one for quite some time. However, with Spike's passing a few months ago, we decided we wanted to wait until we both felt ready and the time has come for a new adventure!
So far, he's been getting used to his new kennel, tromping around outside and gobbling up his food... ahh the life of a puppy! We were pulled to this pup because of his outrageous looking coat and his laid back temperament - he also has gorgeous light blue eyes that will melt your heart!
Uh oh... I think he spotted a bunny - time to go run and catch him! Good exercise for all of us!

I bet he'd grow up into a great looking dog. And his blues...
ReplyDeleteOMG--Gus is adorable! How does Max like him? Are they getting along okay? He is too cute!

what a cutie!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! He is a cutie. Best wishes for much happiness together!
ReplyDeleteMax will love that blue eyed chap with all his heart...just as much as the two of you love him!! best wishes with the sweet new puppy. Love his eyes!!
ReplyDeleteDelurking...I read and so enjoy your blog, Joe, but I've never commented before. I can't tell you how happy this post makes me. We had 2 goldens and lost our older girl to cancer about the same time you lost Spike. It was so hard, and DH and I are still trying to decide if our remaining girl wants/needs a companion, and if we are ready to bring another pup into our family. The fact that you found Gus, and that he's such a doll gives me hope that we'll eventually figure this all out. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteso cute! We are considering a puppy next spring - a "sibling" to our aging lab - these critters really grab your heart don't they?
ReplyDeleteTrish

ReplyDeleteEnjoy those puppy months ... they go by way too quickly. Just like kids!
Aaahhhhh so cute! Congratulations! It's funny - we adopted a dachshund from a shelter recently... but then she turned out not to be a dachshund! She's actually a Jack Russell! I love your photo of Max staring at Gus while he runs around with his toy.

Anna gets them for Lizzie (my pawpal) and told us about them.
His coloring is simply astounding. How adorable. Congrats!

Congrats on the new addition! Doxies are great - we have a mini double dapple named Rhett Butler! Keep those pictures coming.
ReplyDeleteGus is adorable. A friend has a herd (3) of wire-haired dauschunds. I love them. Gus has found the best family. I'm looking forward to lots of pictures of Gus and Max. And new dog treat recipes to share with my dog friends.
ReplyDeleteOMG - he does look like a chocolate chip cookie! That picture with the toy - it could win a contest. Those eyes, he's a heart melter for sure! I'm so happy for you and Jeff.....

ReplyDeleteI saw the post on CLBB but am unable to see pictures when I log on from work so I had to rush right over here in the hopes that you had posted them here too.

Congratulations on your new addition! Gus is absolutely adorable!! I hope he and Max become good buddies! : )
ReplyDeletewhat an utter sweetie!!! For some reason I didn't think that there any daschunds other than the usual smooth haired ones - and I am glad that there are as this one is the cutest!!
ReplyDeleteI'm the proud mommy of a dachshund, and I have to say, I never thought I would love a dog so much!! I'm sure you will completely fall in love with Gus - dachshunds are great dogs!
ReplyDeleteGus is SO adorable. I didn't realize how little he is until the picture with Max. I love his eyes & coat! Have fun with the new pup.
ReplyDeleteThe most beautiful dog!
ReplyDeleteGood lord, that is one of the freakin' cutest dogs I have ever seen. And he has a great name to boot.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
Oh my gosh, what an absolutely gorgeous dog!!
ReplyDeleteYou are very lucky.
Carol :)
He is just the cutest thing! His eyes are beautiful. Looks like lots of fun in your house. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! Max is doing much better than we hoped - he has been sniffing him pretty good, but for the most part he has just left him alone! A little baby growl once or twice, but they've already started playing together!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes with your new doggie, Gus is sooooo cute. I know he will have a great place to grow up in and a wonderful life with such caring people. Rita
ReplyDeleteHe is so cute! I want one like this. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, so CUTE! Those baby blues definitely get to you. Absolutely adorable and I can't wait to see how he grows up into the lovely creature he will be. :-) Congrats on bringing Gus into your beautiful home!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, Gus is cute! You need to send the one with the basketball toy to Cute overload! Looks like a fun dog. When I read that you got a dog named Gus, I thought of our neighbors long-haired dachund also named GUS! Then I saw yours is the same kind of dog. How cool. (Shh, yours looks cuter!)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes with your new little angel! His coloring is breath-taking.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh...he is so darn cute. Look at those precious blue eyes!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and LOVE IT. I'll be adding it to my faves for sure:-)
All puppies are cute, but Gus is truly exceptional. Those blue eyes! Congratulations to both of you.
ReplyDeleteOh congratulations! In case no one warned you, once you get a dachshund, you kind of become "hooked". You really should get a dachshund brother for him as they are priceless in pairs. Have fun! And don't let him get fat that is horrible for him (he looks like he has the sad eyes down pat)!
ReplyDeleteIf you need any dachshund advice, dachshie.org/vbb is really great.
What a beautiful dog! Im happy you have Gus the pup to love and care for. I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a late comment but
ReplyDeleteOh god! That is ADORABLE! I have a one myself but Gus' coat is absolutely amazing! And those eyes?! Amazing. Sooo cute! What's Max's breed? He looks just like an American Eskimo! Or a pure white Pomperanian (spellcheck? haha)
But yes, good luck and fortune with the little cutie!
Congratularions for this new puppy. He looks adorable, oh and those beautiful blue eyes spectacular.

ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteAnon - Yes, Max is an American Eskie!
Omg, you got a Doxie. You know I'm partial to them : ). Wow, I havent checked in here in awhile so this is the first I'm seeing of Gus. Is he a mini or a standard or a tweener?
ReplyDeleteRandi - he is a standard.
ReplyDeleteI think my heart just exploded from the sweetness. So tiny, yet such big, beautiful eyes! He is quite lucky to find himself in your home.
ReplyDeleteOMG! your pup Gus is almost identical to my little Charlie, he's a chocolate dapple too. I had to compare them both to make sure they weren't the same dog! lol.
ReplyDeleteOk, so I just spent the last 1/2 trying to find this post so I could figure out what kind of dog Gus was hahaha...so can I ask, where did you get Gus? Our dog recently passed away and we are thinking about getting another one. Gus is adorable!
ReplyDeleteLiesl - We found him through a friend who referred us to a breeder north of the cities.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me what breeder you got Gus from. My son is wanting to get a chocolate dapple for his girlfriend.
