While we were out shopping yesterday at Cost Plus World Market I came across another new baking item I have not used before.
Cappuccino chips made from Guittard! I think I have recipes somewhere for these, but I can't figure out what I did with them. They have an intense coffee/cappuccino flavor and are pretty creamy. Have you tried them before? If so, what did you do with them - or what would you use them in if you had them? I love shopping at this store and always come out with something I never intended to buy.
Mom spotted something else while we were in the store, but she isn't sharing this one! A Kahlua cream flavored milk chocolate bar. She's saving this for the trip home, but we'll let you know what she thought! I may have to run back over and pick up some myself just to give it a try!
Going with a lighter fare for dinner this evening. Chicken and Bow Tie Pasta Salad along with Zucchini Oven Chips (I've made the chips before) was a fresh change from some of the other dishes we've been having this week. The pasta salad was light, tangy from the citrus, and I'm surprised I liked the added grapes as much as I did. I like how the toasted walnuts gave some crunchy texture along side of soft grapes. It seemed like an odd combination for me while I was preparing it, but the results were very good! This will be great for leftovers and I would make this again just to have for lunch sometime.
Totally jealous! I've heard of cappuccino chips, but, of course, can't get them here, along with cinnamon chips OR raspberry chips. I have a cinnamon chip smuggler in TN ... wanna be me cappuccino chip smuggler from AZ? Happy to trade a cookbook for a chip stash?
ReplyDeleteI love grapes in all kinds of savory salads. I always eat them first. I may have to go by World Market and pick up some of those Kahlua bars, yummy.
ReplyDeletethese are great cookies from the KA website. my notes are below.
ReplyDeleteGwen's Very Special Mocha Cookies
2 1/4 c King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour -- (10 1/4 ounces)
OR Mellow Pastry Blend
1/3 cup Double Dutch Dark Cocoa OR natural cocoa -- (1 3/8 ounces)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon espresso powder
1 cup butter -- (2 sticks, 8 ounces)
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup cinnamon chips
1 cup cappuccino chips
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, stir together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. In a separate bowl, beat together the sugars, espresso powder, butter, eggs and vanilla. Gradually add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture, beating till well-combined. Stir in the chips.
Drop the dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake the cookies in a preheated 375°F oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until they're just barely set. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Yield: about 4 dozen 2 1/2-inch cookies.

"King Arthur Flour"
my notes: I got about 32 cookies. Excellent! great fudgy and coffee flavor with a hint of cinnamon. crisp outside and chewy inside. definitely worth buying the KA chips for.
I have tried the chips and liked them a lot, creamy and with a nice coffe flavor, just as you described!
ReplyDeleteWhen I bought them I used on a muffin recipe I got from the CL BB. I don't remember the exact name but it was something like "Capuccino Oat Muffins"
I liked the chips a lot, however my husband is not a fan of coffe flavor and I still have half bag at my pantry... Now I am curious to see what you are going to do with them. Maybe I will get inspired and finish up my bag when I come back home! hehehe!!
Oh, and that chocolate bar your mom got looks like a good one!
Ana

Oh, I really want to try the Kahlua cream flavored milk chocolate!! I'm sure it'll appear in my dream tonight...
ReplyDeleteWell, I was going to give you the Gwen's Very Special Mocha Cookie recipe, but Val beat me to it! I can vouch for them though- they are excellent.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog- so much fun to read about adventures in the kitchen. What I'm most amazed by is that you have time to try so many new things AND write about them all!
These cappuccino chips are fab! Since Panera Bread stopped making their Icy Cappuccino drink, (which I am addicted to) I have been able to chop the chips at home and then go to Panera and ask for the Icy Mocha drink minus chocolate...(meaning just the base so the employee at Panera understands) and then drop my chips in and mix around. YUM. Until they bring back their own cappaccino chips I can still feed my addiction.
ReplyDeleteAnybody have any new recipes for the cappuccino chips? I am looking mainly for cookie recipes.
