Candied Walnuts (Adapted from Bon Appétit)
1 cup walnuts
2 tablespoons brown rice syrup (you can use light corn syrup if you wish)
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
pinch of cayenne pepper
Preheat oven to 325
In a medium bowl, toss together walnuts, syrup, sugar, salt, pepper and cayenne until well combined. Scatter mixture on a silpat or parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake until the nuts take on a deep golden color, about 15 minutes - be sure to stir occasionally to break up any clumps. Remove and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
