Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays 2006!

I hope everyone is able to enjoy their day with friends, family and loved ones!

Here was my gift of the morning...

Unfortunately we spent 6 hours in the emergency room this morning, put up with 5 tries at getting an IV and dealt with a variety of tests - we had to change our plans for today. I'm going to go take some medicine and relax to see if I can still get dinner together tonight - but we should be back to posting as normal as we can tomorrow!

I mentioned a few days ago that Jeff thought we should decorate a gingerbread house this year - here are a couple pictures of how it ended up! This was our first time ever doing something like this - it was sure fun and not too tough to put together.

I also did an oblong gingerbread base for it to sit on... but now I wonder what we are going to do with it (it is all 100% edible, but Jeff wants to save it)! Do you end up eating yours, saving it or tossing it to the birds? And for you clever Disney fans, be sure to look for some hidden Mickeys!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Jeff and I!

  4. I hope you are feeling better (or will be soon)...

I made gingerbread houses when I was a kid and I always wanted to keep them. But then they got so stale and brittle and my mom didn't want to store them so we ended up tossing them. I kind of wish that I'd actually eaten one of them. Just because it was edible and I could have!

I read your blog daily and love every minute of it. Made your chocolate malt cookies and two-tone fudge. Everyone raved. Thanks.

  21. Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Your gingerbread house is beautiful! If you want to keep it, find some freezer space for it, or pop it into a well-sealed tote in a month or so when it has fully dried out (so it doesn't mould). As beautiful as it is, it would look much less so after being feasted on by mice or weevils. Um... ew.

  22. Dear Joe,

How horrible to spend your holiday in the hospital! I love your blog, and have this hope that one day, you'll be able to give me the name of the contractor you used for your kitchen renovation.

We live in North Potomac, MD and are in Frederick (love the downtown area) frequently.

  25. First of all, so sorry to hear how your Christmas was spent. Glad to hear that it's nothing major though.

Second, that is ONE gorgeous gingerbread house. You two are very talented! I could only imagine what a gingerbread house my husband and I put together would look like! ha!

Merry CHristmas and Happy New Year!

  26. Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I still don't know what was wrong, but it seems to be clearing up by itself.

I think I may find a few bites missing from the gingerbread house soon... Jeff seems to be eyeing it!

  27. Our holiday tradition: my sister and I make a gingerbread house after Thanksgiving. My mom leaves it out through the holiday season for decoration, and then on New Year's Eve, we blow it up with fireworks. (We use the gingerbread house kits, and they taste pretty bad)

  29. Oh my gosh, what an awful Christmas present. So glad you are feeling better. I've been thinking of you guys a lot the last few days--but never once did I picture you in the hospital!

I saw your post with all the bags of holiday goodies several days ago (same thing I do each year only this time mine aren't going out until mid-January) and kept meaning to come back by and tell you that you deserve much more than the long nap you were hoping for--you deserve a vacation. But not in the emergency room! (I did also picture you sending Jeff back to work after a couple of days of his vacation at home, LOL.)

Speaking of Jeff, I can't believe he hasn't been cooking you dinner and catering to your every whim while you recuperated. And unwrapping chocolates and peeling you grapes. . .

The gingerbread house is absolutely darling. One of the cutest I've ever seen. Happy New Year to you all (including that fluffy white dog)! : )
