Flank Steak and Vegetable Stir-Fry (Adapted from CL)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
16 ounces trimmed flank steak, thinly sliced
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
3/4 cup beef broth
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons canola oil
1 cup 1/4" diagonally cut slices carrot
1 cup broccoli florets
1 1/2 cups snow peas, trimmed
3 cups hot cooked brown basmati rice
In a small bowl, stir together salt, five-spice powder and pepper - sprinkle evenly over the sliced steak.
In a medium bowl, combine cornstarch, sugar and red pepper - whisk in broth and soy sauce.
In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high. Add carrots - stir-fry 2 minutes. Add steak and broccoli - stir-fry 1 minute. Stir in broth mixture and cook 1 minute while stirring constantly. Add snow peas and cook until crisp tender, about 1 minute. Serve over hot rice.
Makes about 4 servings.
