We left on Tuesday for a short trip to the East coast (more on this soon), but we're back home tonight! It may take a day or two to get life back in order, but in the mean time, we thought it would be a good time to work on getting a F.A.Q. post together.
Have a question you've always wanted to ask or have to know something specific about us or the site? We'll gather up what we can from the comment section or e-mails (you'll find an e-mail link on the right hand side of the page) and set up a post with answers as time allows.

Is there a difference between heavy cream and heavy whipping cream? I have heard that King Arthur all-purpose flour bakes differently than Pillsbury or other more readily available all-purpose flours. Is there some adjustment that needs to be made?
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of your pets and love the photos-- do you still have Miss Kitty? If yes, can we get an update on her or a photo? =)
ReplyDeleteI recently stumbled upon you blog & I love it! What kind of camera do you use to take your beautiful food (and other) pictures?
ReplyDeleteYour photos have a beautiful look to the border. Very pleasing sorta rounded. How do you do that?
ReplyDeleteHow do you sort/store all your recipes? I've got tons between cookbooks, magazines and downloads, but always seem to lose the one I need. Favorites get put in a 3 ring binder, but can't figure out how to store the ones I want to try. Any ideas would be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteAlso, do you plan out meals weekly, monthly?
Thanks!
This is kind of personal and maybe you don't want to say, but do you work? Every time I think about all the cooking you manage to get done in a week I wonder if you have a day job. We know Jeff works at an office because of Weekly Wednesday Treat Day™ but do you manage to do all of this AND hold down a 40hr/wk job? If so, I feel like a total slacker barely being able to make dinner each night when I get home.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Gus' favorite toy and why hasn't Oprah or Ellen had him on yet?
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note, when is your book coming out? I've learned so much about exploring recipes, playing with substitutions and just cooking in general from your blog. Thank you!
Welcome home! I was just out on the East coast recently too--that is where my family is :-)
ReplyDeleteSomeone asked my question--do you work and if so how do you make the time to cook such lovely things?!--but I was also wondering how you *store* all that you cook/bake? It seems like you make so much more than two people can eat at one time, yet you always have new recipes, so...you must have a lot of leftovers? Do you have a big deep freezer? Or how do you store and keep everything?

do you ever get receipie ideas from blog readers and try them on thier suggestions?
ReplyDeleteJust wondering if you are still selling your house. Where are you moving?
ReplyDeleteWelcome Home. Even though it has only been a few days you have been missed.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, thank you very much for the effort and care you put into this fantastic site. I've never commented, but have read it regularly for a few years and have tried countless recipes from your recommendations.
ReplyDeleteHere's my question: I've sometimes noticed some familiar dishes from Cooking Light, Eating Well and Everyday Food (which is great, since it gives me some direction for which recipes to try!). What other magazines, blogs or cookbooks do you most regularly read? Has it changed over time?
Are there some cooking techniques or food trends that you've recently tried out or adopted?
Thanks!
Susan
All great questions! I'll be gathering them into a post when I can! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteThat will be interesting to read. Would love to know what's on your cookbooks shelves. What magazines do you subscribe to and which ones do you buy every month? I know you love Penzey's Spices, so maybe a section where you talk about your favorite spices from that store.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a section on what are your favorite kitchen gadgets, what kind pots & pans you like to buy, do you like Le Creuset etc.
What Pantry staples you can't live without.
So many questions Joe. :)
I may be late asking a question, but I thought I would add it anyway. Could you add a favorite recipe section? I liked the year end recap of some of your favorite recipes. Some of the recipes that were your favorites I missed and it would be nice to have them in one location. Do you write your recipe reviews in advance or do you write them when you site down to post? Do you make any money from your blog?
