Double Decadence Bars

Double Decadence Bars (Adapted from Land O Lakes)

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
16 tablespoons (1 cup or 2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup chopped peanuts (salted preferred)
1 cup toffee bits
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt.

In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until creamy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, mixing until well combined after each. Mix in vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix until combined. Fold in peanuts and toffee bits.

Scoop 2 cups batter into a small bowl - pour in melted chocolate and stir to combine.

Place tan batter into a 9" x 13" baking pan and spread to evenly cover the bottom. Place small dollops of the chocolate batter on top, then spread to evenly cover. Place pan into the oven and bake until a toothpick placed in the center comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs attached, about 28 to 33 minutes. Remove and place pan on a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into bars.

Makes about 28 bars.
