Savory Sausage Rolls

Savory Sausage Rolls (Adapted from CL)

2 teaspoons olive oil
8 ounces sweet Italian turkey sausage, casings removed
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
1/4 teaspoon salt
12 ounces prepared whole-wheat pizza dough (I used our favorite recipe)
1 tablespoons butter, melted
3 ounces (about 3/4 cup) shredded Gruyère cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium skillet, heat oil over medium-high. Add sausage and cook, stirring to crumble, until browned and cooked through. Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Remove from the heat and season with sage and salt.

On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out into a 13" x 8" rectangle. Brush the top of the dough with butter, leaving a clean 1/2" border along one long edge. Scatter sausage mixture evenly over dough, leaving the same 1/2" border clean. Scatter cheese over the top of the sausage crumbles. Starting with one long side (opposite of the clean edge), roll dough up, jelly-roll style, pinching seam to seal.

Slice log into twelve even pieces - I find using unflavored dental floss the best tool for this. Arrange rolls into a 9" x 13" baking dish coated with cooking spray. Place pan into the oven and bake until golden, about 26 to 30 minutes. Remove and let cool slightly before serving.

Makes about 4 servings.
