Apple Cinnamon Chip Granola Squares
Apple Cinnamon Chip Granola Squares
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 1/2 cups crisp rice cereal
1/2 cup cinnamon chips
1/2 cup dried granny smith apples, coarsley chopped
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup Lyle's Golden Syrup
2 tablespoon natural peanut butter, fresh ground
1 egg white
1 tablespoon soy milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and allspice and set aside. In a medium bowl, mix together the oats, cereal, cinnamon chips, and dried apples.
In a large bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients (brown sugar through vanilla) until well combined. Stir in the flour mixture until thick. Fold in the oat mixture until thoroughly coated.
Press into a 13x9-inch baking pan coated with nonstick cooking spray. Bake at 350 degrees F for 18 minutes, or until golden brown. Immediately score the surface with shallow cuts, making rectangular squares. When completely cooled, cut along the scored lines. Makes 18 squares

hello joe, where do you think we can buy the golden syrup? I believe it is a sugar bi-product, right?
ReplyDeleteFethiye,
ReplyDeleteI find it in my local grocery store, you can also find it on amazon.com. It is a cane sugar syrup - you could replace it with honey if you wanted.
Thanks! I will take a look again -- have tried but failed to find previously.
ReplyDeletesome recipes call for golden syrup cannot be replaced by honey, I read and one of my Australian friends told me.
Hi Joe, found your blog through your posts on the CLBB and I just wanted to come back and say thank you for posting this recipe, I just made these again, we love them!
ReplyDeleteHi Shadowcat - I'm glad you like them. We make them every so often too, they are good!
