Sometimes the taste is not what you expected...

I'm always on the lookout for new recipes to use different types of squash. This recipe, Butternut-Cheese Pie looked good, but it's not something that we would usually have. In an effort to keep expanding what we eat I went ahead and gave it a go. Working with the phyllo dough was easier than I thought it might be, but I would rather use melted butter instead of the cooking spray that CL uses in between the layers. I doubt I would ever make this again, the flavor was just okay. Sweetness from the squash against the bite in the cheese was nice, but it just didn't do it for us.

I did liked how it ended up looking at least! I have a bunch of phyllo to use up now though. I did make our favorite Sour Cream and Cheddar Drop Biscuits to go along which always goes over well.
I was asked by one of Jeff's co-workers if I would make up the Decadent peanut butter cups for some family that was coming into town. So I didn't get anyting new baked goods from the kitchen today. I got them finished and packaged up for tomorrow.

  2. I wanted to try that butternut cheese pie myself....but I might just skip it after your review. And, I agree, the cooking spray between layers is kind of odd.

  4. s'kat - I agree! I think I would of preferred that instead though...

Chloe - Thanks! I wouldn't even know how to start but we have gotten a few requests lately!

Alice - I think the mint overpowered it for me, it just seemed to detract from the other flavors.

Mona - We really love the biscuits. Quick to throw together and you could even put them in muffin tins too.
