Whole Wheat Cream Cheese Danish Dog Biscuits

Whole Wheat Cream Cheese Danish Dog Biscuits(Adapted from Kooper's Doggie Desserts)

4 ounces Neufchatel cream cheese
1/2 cup all natural apple sauce, no sugar added
1/2 cup canola oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups whole wheat flour

Preheat oven to 350

In a large bowl, add all ingredients until mix until combined. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface. Roll dough to about 1/2" thickness. Using a fun cookie cutter, cut out as many shapes as you can and reroll the dough. Continue to cut and reroll until all the dough is used up.

Place dough on a baking sheet lightly coated with cooking spray. Bake for 20 minutes. Turn off oven and let cookies sit in oven for about 2 hours to harden.

  3. Joe, how do you store these and how long will they keep? I plan to make these biscuits for holiday gifts for some of my 4-legged friends.

  4. Patti - I store most of our treats in the freezer or refrigerator. I'm not sure on the actual shelf life as the pups go through them fairly fast. They would have to last awhile in the freezer though!

  5. Joe, I made these for one of my clients to celebrate their adoption of a new dog. The dogs loved them. I wrote about them on my blog. My dog friends will be enjoying lots of homemade treats thanks to you and your panel of taste testers. Your blog is a favorite of mine.

  7. A note on the freezing- When I made the peanut butter biscuits, I froze half the batch. I left them in there for around 2 months before pulling them out. They defrosted just fine and tasted the same (yes, I did try them). I imagine these would be the same and I bet they would last a lot longer in the freezer if you needed them to.

The Cream Cheese Biscuits are in the oven right now. I'm hoping my dogs will like the crunchy texture.

Thanks again for all your great recipes, Joe!
